Miami Swim Cruise 13: Style Saves

For its second year, Miami nonprofit Style Saves threw a fabulous party to raise funds to buy Back-to-School clothes for kids from lower-income neighborhoods in the Miami area. Prominent multi-brand shops Atrium and IShine365 helped Style Saves party for a good cause July 19 at the pool of the Soho Beach House. Joining in on the stylish fun were fashion brands Trina Turk and papi.

Trina Turk, based in the Los Angeles area, showed its early Cruise 2013 collection, which was inspired by the style of the Mayan Riviera around the Mexican resort city Cancún. Looks included a “Yukateca” print one-piece with side cutout. Another Trina Turk signature look was the “Cozumel Zebra” push-up underwire top with a surf-hipster bottom. The look had a retro-inspired fit. Tunics and colorful men’s boardshorts also were seen on the runway in the Turk section of the show.

Perfectly timed to coincide with the Olympics, papi Inc., based in the Miami area, showed its men’s swimwear and underwear, both of which featured the colors of the flags of Latin American nations and the United States. The collection had been updated from its 2011 debut, when was featured during Macy’s Hispanic Heritage month celebration. Using materials such as cotton spandex and poly microfiber, the papi show also featured other fashion underwear and swimwear that showcased neon colors and geometric designs with black and white colors.

Papi’s Suave Collection by The Underwear Expert

Papi’s latest collection, Suave, introduces a unique finishing concept—peaching—on the fabric that offers a thin, suede leather feel on the skin. Hitting store shelves this weekend, Suave consists of a Brazilian and European trunk ($22) as well as a tank top ($28). Check out the line and then read more about Papi’s innovate finishing concept after the jump.

“The concept of peaching the Micro-Polyester Spandex is something we have not seen in the market and so we developed the collection Suave, which literally means soft and sleek,” says Lucio De Carvalho, Vice President of Design for Papi.

Made from 88 % polyester and 12% spandex, the fabric is brushed on the inside to create a plush comfortable feeling, according to De Carvalho. The Micro-Polyester fabrics typically offer a soft feel on the skin. “But on Suave, we added one more step to make it even softer,” he adds. “We kept the outside of the garment as is so the colors are vibrant and the print is sharp.”

The trunks are offered in retro inspired colors and are available in shades of black, iron ore, rio, geisha red, sunset and cayo. “We also went back to our original Papi logo with the oval outline going around it,” says De Carvalho. The line is offered S-XL.
