As summer approaches, underwear brands are almost as ready to hit the beach as we are (WE ARE SO READY!) so quite a few have released new seasonal collections featuring colorful and tropical inspired underwear.
We’re not sure about you, but there’s already a tropical party going on in our pants as we wait for the official kick-off of summer. Never ones to arrive for a party underdressed, we’re all about the tropical themed colors and prints that some of our favorite underwear brands have released this year.
These pairs are not only perfect for getting in the mood, they should definitely come in handy once the tides turn and we finally hit the sand. They’re also great for staying on theme below the belt on your next tropical getaway. Even if that getaway is really just a drive to the tanning salon.

The Underwear Expert: David, summer is all about spontaneity for sure, but it’s good to plan!
We can’t always be prepared for what’s around the corner, especially when it comes to summer fun, but with underwear that has quick-drying properties and other features, you can cover some bases. No one wants to be the only one left sitting by the pool or stranded in the sand while his friends and fam splash around having a blast. Unless of course, you’re the one skinny dipping in front of grandma, but we’ll leave that one to you.
When picking out the best underwear for swimming, the first thing to consider is fabric. Our suggestions are made mostly from polyester or nylon fabrics, which both dry much faster than cotton. The other big consideration is style. As much as you don’t want to be the one left on the sidelines, you also don’t want to be the one in wet, awkwardly baggy briefs that are obviously meant to be hidden under pants. Our picks also feature flattering cuts and fun colors, so they woud fit right in by the pool.

While hot pink underwear was on fire last season, light shades of pink–as well as pink’s cousin fuchsia–have emerged as a stand-out color this season. Several underwear brands updated some of their best selling collections with light pink while others introduced new ranges showcasing this subdued, cheerful color. What gives, you ask? Isn’t light pink totally girly? No, actually. Pink underwear is great because it can complement any skin tone in addition to signaling that a man is self-assured of his masculinity, regardless of sexual orientation.

Fuchsia has become a popular color for the season due to the fact that it’s popular among men’s fashion. Papi observed this trend and updated its top-selling Ibiza 2-pack Brazilian trunks with a brilliant fuchsia plaid print. “Fuchsia [is a] very hot color for men’s sportswear right now so we decided this trend should carry to underwear as well,” said a design representative for Papi.

papi Gives Some Eye Candy

Papi introduces its new collection of bright colors and energetic stripes inspired by the tropical scenery of Miami. Hitting stores early April, the Papi Eye Candy collection consists of a solid Brazilian trunk ($22), striped Brazilian trunk ($22), low-rise brief ($18) and tank top ($28). The range comes in bright colors such as lemon light, intensity red, blue swept and parrot green in addition to black.
The Papi Eye Candy collection gives consumers a variety of tropical shades that give their favorite silhouette from Papi an extra pop of color. The Brazilian trunks and low-rise briefs are available in the new solid colors with a black waistband. The trunks feature a dazzling array of colorful horizontal stripes, paired with black and white stripes, and include a tonal waistband, contour pouch and leg openings.
The Eye Candy range is made from a breathable cotton stretch fabric that offers a soft feel and ideal stretch that maintains the shape of the garment throughout repeated wearing, according to the brand. The trunks, briefs and tank tops are made from a fabric blend of 95% cotton and 5% spandex. During the knitting process, the cotton is infused with spandex, resulting in a four-way, contouring stretch.
“This combination has all the benefits of cotton with the added advantage of stretch properties,” a Papi representative told the Underwear Expert. “This contouring allows the fabric to mold and shape to the body, creating a sleek silhouette, superior fit and a great look and feel under your clothes. Plus, the contour pouch has a middle seam that gives extra support.”
The Papi Eye Candy collection is available in S-XL.
